The following is a list of clubs and organizations
available to students in grades 6-8.
Please note: Notices about club meetings are also posted in the
Communication Zone, an area in the hallway near the Technology rooms.
Art Club
Advisors: Mrs. Kristen Wells, 765-3314, ext. 433
Art Club is open to both middle school and high
school students.
The club meets every Tuesday after school in art room 150. The club is
dedicated to providing extra-curricular arts activities to students, and
promoting the arts within the school culture. Children who are members
will experience a variety of arts processes as well as create murals and
participate in fundraising activities.
Builders Club
Advisors: Mrs. Lisa Spadinger,
765-3314, ext. 701
The Middle School Builder’s Club meets twice a month and
more often, if needed. The purpose of the club is to serve others and
have fun while doing it. Members can look forward to service projects
and working with Kiwanis. Meetings are announced on the P.A. All middle
school students are welcome to join. Builder’s Club is looking for
members who are leaders, demonstrate commitment and possess the desire
to follow
through with projects.
2011-12 meeting dates: All dates are on Wednesdays.
We often times meet for special activities on weekends which require
parent transportation.

Guitar Club

Guitar Club is for any middle school student who
plays, or who wants to learn to play guitar. You do not need to own a
guitar to be a member.
The Helderbarker – District Newspaper
Advisor: Mr. Brian Stumbaugh, 765-3314, ext. 370
The
Helderbarker is a student-run activity open primarily to students in grades
6–12. Occasionally, Middle School students are interested in
contributing articles to The Helderbarker and may do so.
Middle School Drama Club
Advisor: Mr. Jon Glisson, 765-3314, ext. 368
All middle school students are welcome to join MS Drama Club. A series of after school theater
workshops will occur before actual auditions begin for the school play.
Students will learn a variety of theater terms, techniques and games
that will include topics such as pantomime, voice projection and stage
presence. Meetings will occur once a week and more often when production
time is near.
Middle School Jazz Ensemble
Advisor: Mr. Brian Kaplan, 765-3314, ext. 424
Middle School Jazz Ensemble is open to all students
in grades 6, 7, and 8 who currently play a band instrument -- piano,
guitar, bass or drums. The ensemble meets after school from 3:30-4:15
p.m. one day a week. Ensemble members will have the opportunity to play
Swing, Blues, Rock, Funk and Latin styles as well as explore basic music
theory and improvisation concepts. Students are expected to regularly
attend rehearsals. No Jazz experience necessary.
Middle School Student Council
Advisors: Mrs. Jessica Bradshaw, 765-3314, ext. 343
The Middle School Student Council discusses issues of concern to
students in grades 6-8. They will also be planning some service
activities, which are open to all students in grades 6-8.
Officers, representatives and alternates are elected. Representatives
and alternates are elected from their social studies classes.
Ski Club
Advisor: Ms. Barbara Blumberg (765-3314, ext. 420)

Planned activities: Six weekend/holiday ski trips
for students in grades 7-12 and a spring trip to Six Flags amusement
park.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS: Attendance at one of the mandatory orientation
meetings held after school during October, submission of all required
forms and permission slips and payment of $20 annual dues is due by
OCTOBER 31. Watch for notices in Communication Zone and during home
base.
COST: Varies by trip depending on destination and package desired.
Students may participate in any/all trips after meeting membership
requirements. The club will not accept students who have not met membership
deadlines for meeting attendance and submission of membership forms.
Average Costs for a trip: Bus: $20; Lift tickets: $30; Lessons: $15; Ski Rental:
$25. Students sign up for individual trips the week prior to the trip
date.

Yearbook – “Torch”
Advisors: George Amann, 765-3314 ext. 361;

The purpose of this club is to produce a yearbook. Students are asked to
be hard workers with excellent attendance. We work on our
publication after school and occasionally on Saturdays. Students in
grades 6 and 7 may apply for an editorial position in October. Students
in grades 8-12 should apply in May of the previous year.
Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind is comprised of student teams who participate in a
creative, problem-solving competition.
