The Blackbird Paradise School and
Community Garden is a raised bed, square foot garden utilizing organic
gardening techniques. Teachers, students, and community members work
collaboratively to grow and harvest produce and flowers to be enjoyed by
the district students and staff, food pantry clients, and local senior
citizens in need.
Programs
Garden Crafts (ES) - a series of
winter workshops utilizing herbs harvested from Blackbird Paradise,
offered as part of the Go Beyond program
Great Plate Exhibit (currently
K-2nd Grade) - a screen presentation and exhibition educating
children about nationally recognized healthy eating habits
Science Lab Days (2nd/3rd Grade) -
students plant a square foot of flowers or vegetables in the garden
and participate in garden education
Community Groups in the Garden -
scout troops and other community groups are hosted in the garden
after a program catered to their requests is developed by garden
volunteers
Fall Harvest Celebration
(town-wide) - a bi-annual celebration of a bountiful harvest

Seeds of
Wolcott Vermont supports Blackbird Paradise by donating seeds.
Through their seed donation program, they provide schools and community
groups with one of the essential components for starting abundant
gardens – the seeds! – thereby helping to foster self-sufficiency,
healthy eating and education about plants' life cycles. High
Mowing is an independently-owned farm and seed company located in the
heart of the Green Mountains of Vermont.
