The Blackbird Paradise School and Community Garden is a raised bed, square foot garden utilizing organic gardening techniques. Teachers, students, and community members work collaboratively to grow and harvest produce and flowers to be enjoyed by the district students and staff, food pantry clients, and local senior citizens in need.

Programs

  • Garden Crafts (ES) - a series of winter workshops utilizing herbs harvested from Blackbird Paradise, offered as part of the Go Beyond program

  • Great Plate Exhibit (currently K-2nd Grade) - a screen presentation and exhibition educating children about nationally recognized healthy eating habits

  • Science Lab Days (2nd/3rd Grade) - students plant a square foot of flowers or vegetables in the garden and participate in garden education

  • Community Groups in the Garden - scout troops and other community groups are hosted in the garden after a program catered to their requests is developed by garden volunteers

  • Fall Harvest Celebration (town-wide) - a bi-annual celebration of a bountiful harvest
