Seventh-grader wins Voorheesville Spelling Bee
(Jan.
12, 2012) Voorheesville Middle School seventh-grader Ryan Burczak has
clenched the title of "Voorheesville Spelling Bee Champion." He will
represent Voorheesville at the Capital Region Spelling Bee at Proctor's
Theater in Schenectady on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The winner of this regional
competition will compete at the National Spelling Bee held in
Washington, DC.
With 41 contestants representing grades 4 through 8, the annual contest
on Jan. 11 went into 18 rounds, with Ryan (pictured at right) ultimately
winning the champion round. Each student contestant was the winner of
their classroom spelling bee held earlier this month.
Gabriel DeFreest-Rondeau, an eighth-grader, came in second place, and
Braden Racey, a seventh-grader, came in third.
The winning word was "miscellaneous."
Congratulations to Ryan and all of the students who participated!
