District hosts summit to discuss shared services
(Feb.
9, 2012) On
Tuesday, Feb. 7, Voorheesville Central School District hosted a summit
on shared services. More than 40 educational leaders from 14 different
school districts met to discuss these difficult budgetary times.
The group met as a large group and then broke into
four smaller discussion groups to generate viable ideas for sharing
services, from transportation to academics and athletics to
administrative tasks.
"Response to the event was astonishing," said
Superintendent
Dr. Snyder. "There was a real sense of working together
to create efficiencies while trying to preserve options for our
students. The common theme described what we can accomplish together,
which none of us can accomplish individually."
Plans are underway to continue meeting, not just for
the short term goal of creating viable budgets for next year, but for
the long term goal of collaboration to achieve common ground in
offerings for students, while dealing with the constraints of a
difficult economy.
